The Biology of Aging

lyrics

You start to see it as a fashion.
You start to look at rooftops instead of the horizon.
You learn to make friends with complacency.
You learn to shake hands so good.

Your shoes aren't torn up, your clothes are all new,
Your wallet's getting fatter, your pockets are full.
Yet you say it's not what you wanted,
You claim it's not what you wanted at all.

And just like that years of torn up shoes and empty wallets: gone.
You try to look inside but you can't, so you turn to me,
you smile, and you sing:

"Fashion? Fashion! I won't fall in!"

...and so you turn to deception,
and enter crowds like they know who you are.
But they just swallow you whole,
yet still you press on.

You're forever young and you'll never say die.
You're forever green and you'll never ask why.

That's what I envy you the most for.
